I have never been a fan of Jerry Seinfeld, but after hearing his interview with Brian Williams he earned my respect.
During the interview Brian asked Jerry why he still shows up randomly at comedy clubs at midnight? Jerry responded, “wow I wish I had an answer for you, but I know it’s the healthiest thing I can do”. He continued by saying, “people in his industry may never understand that”. Then he adds the best part: ” if you’re more interested in what you’ve achieved or what your financial position enables you to do then that thing that got you those things you are screwed.”
I totally agree because being in the event planning industry I am sure some people may think, how is it that she teaches future event planners to do what she does and become her “competitors”? I give back to the industry by teaching. I believe that if I want the industry to be looked at with high standards I must do my part and educate/train/mentor future event planners to be the BEST at what they do. This will be a positive reflection in the industry, and I would have done my part. And to the comment as to them being my future “competitors”, I disregard because there is no way I can do billions of events.
So I educate my colleagues as to what’s in store for them, and then they can make a decision as to whether the event planning business is for them or not. And if it is, they are prepared to represent the industry well.
